Generator Repair FAQs
As a general rule, standby diesel generators should be serviced every 6 months or after 100-200 hours of running time, whichever comes first, more often if the unit runs frequently during load-shedding. A proper service includes an oil and filter change, coolant check, battery and starter test, and a load test to confirm the generator can carry your building’s load when you need it.
Watch for slow or failed starts, unusual smoke colour, oil or fuel leaks, unusual vibration or noise, frequent tripping under load, and warning lights on the control panel. If your generator fails to start automatically during a power outage, that’s an urgent sign it needs attention before the next outage.
